Abstract
This project aims to foster a research culture for female staff in a Greater Manchester Business School and to increase research outputs, this is in response to the wider sector situation of gender inequalities and imbalances in academic research. This developmental paper reviews the literature on the challenges and barriers faced by women in HE, such as the lack of recognition, support, and opportunities for research development and career advancement. There is a need to understand the challenges female academics encounter and to establish a supportive research environment instead of anticipating research to just materialise. The methodology involves fostering a research community, providing specialised coaching, and data collecting from various qualitative techniques and to evaluate the impact of the specialist coaching. As part of our approach, we are asking female colleagues to sketch their research career stories. For the purposes of this conference, we will focus on the insights gained from these visual narratives, which aim to provide visibility, highlight unique challenges, and foster a sense of community.
