Abstract

This paper reports on a service evaluation of blueSCI, a social inclusion and cultural well-being service in the North West of England. It is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise that supports people who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress. The purpose of the evaluation was to facilitate a reflective account on what, from a client perspective, the service has been able to offer to date and how blueSCI might improve, develop and extend its service in the future. An evaluation tool was developed in consultation with service users and completed by 103 people who were randomly selected from blueSCI records. It was found that gender, age range and relationship status were not reflective of local population and the issue of disability was complex. Common issues recurring throughout the evaluation, included the need for friendship, socialisation and structured activities, all of which needed to occur within an environment of understanding and one that promoted feelings of safety. Seven recommendations are made relating to child care, name badges, disability, age profile, impact of blueSCI, communication and further evaluation.
