Abstract

This chapter provides evidence-based guidance for practitioners to support them when imaging persons living with dementia. This is important given the current lack of specific guidelines and the increasing prevalence of women living with dementia attending breast clinics. The chapter begins by detailing the main symptoms, stages, and types of dementia and then discusses how these issues can influence care. The key practice adaptations that can be made to improve the experiences of a person living with dementia are then discussed. They include communication techniques, pre-appointment preparation, environmental adaptations, carer/care partner integration and obtaining informed consent. The chapter concludes by providing useful resources which can be used by practitioners to further support them in developing and adapting their practice when imaging.
