Biography | Having qualified from the Northern College of Chiropody in 1987 with a Diploma in Podiatric Medicine ( before it became known as ‘podiatry’ and before the College became the University of Salford!) I went on to gain a BSc in Podiatric Medicine and MSc in Healthcare. I worked as an NHS Podiatrist until I joined the Podiatry Department in the UoS in 2002. |

Teaching and Learning | I have many interests, but am particularly involved in : Lower leg vascular assessment and management . I teach this topic to UG and pre reg MSC students. I have developed a university based ‘Lower leg circulation clinic’ which is used as a final year placement . Podiatric Dermatology - I teach this topic to UG and pre reg MSC students. I am a founding member of the Royal College of Podiatry Dermatology Special Interest Group and I was lead clinical researcher on the EVERT 2 trial ( verrucae treatment) High risk foot ulcer management . I teach this topic to UG and pre reg MSC students. Up until 2019 I held an honorary contract within the NHS working in high risk foot ulcer assessment and management. I am an active member of the Northwest Clinical Effectiveness Group for the High Risk foot, and contributed to the 2022 published guidelines Specialist placements- Having been actively involved in the development of Podiatry placements since I started in 2002, I am currently interested in developing ‘specialist placements’. I have developed a vibrant Private Practice Placement for final years, as well as a ‘Vulnerable Person Placement’ which includes a Manchester City Center clinic caring for ‘people of no fixed abode’ , the Prison Service and Secure Mental Health Units |
