Prof Muzammil Quraishi
Biography | Muzammil joined Salford in 2002. His research centres upon crime and victimology amongst Muslim populations, particularly within prison contexts. His research interests include discrimination and criminal justice, comparative criminology and zemiology. His methodological leanings are qualitative as inspired by Critical Criminology. Muzammil is author of several pioneering publications in his field. He has been primary supervisor for 10 PhD scholars to completion covering topics including body worn cameras in the Middle East; Islamic law & British women; violence in rural Pakistan, racism in Dutch Policing and youth justice in Nigeria. Research Interests | My main research interests centre upon the confluence of religious and ethnic identities, victimisation and criminal justice, specifically within prison contexts. I also have interests in broader criminological theory- Comparative Criminology, Zemiology & Social Harm. |
Teaching and Learning | I have taught across all levels on criminology and criminology related programmes at Salford since 2002. I have served as programme leader for undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees and convened many modules over the years including investigating homicide, the criminal justice process, theoretical criminology, digital criminal justice, surveillance prisons and social control and ethnicity and crime. |
