Ms Robyn McCarthy
| Biography | Robyn originally trained as an optometrist and worked in community practice for fifteen years across the northwest of England. Observing differences in health between communities lead to an interest in health inequalities and a move into public health work. Completing an MSc in Public Health at the University of Salford, (Dissertation Helen Prosser prize for Endeavor) before going on to work on Prof Penny Cook's FASD Prevalence Study, the first of its kind in the UK. Robyn has a research focus on alcohol harm, FASD and Prenatal adversity and has been invited to speak at workshops as an expert in the field. Robyn presented a plenary talk at the EU FASD conference in Norway in 2022 on the UK FASD Prevalence data and was shortlisted for the 2024 Celebration of Innovation award - Best Contribution to Open and Responsible Research. Current teaching responsibilities on the Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship within the School of Health and Society. Module Leader - Policy and Strategy in public health, Collaborative working in public health and Promoting the publics health and wellbeing. |
