QR non-recurrent Funding Award. Non-Medical Prescribing In Adult Social Care: A World Cafe
2024 - 2025

Recognition Type Internal funding award
Description Traditionally nurses (and some other registered health professionals) have been given legal prescribing rights following extensive practice development, and upon completion of a Professional Statutory Regulatory Body approved prescribing program of study. This supports service users to gain more rapid access to trained clinical staff, and medication as appropriate. there is a long and established history of nurse prescribing in the NHS and NHS contracted services. Whilst nurses may undertake continuing professional development and education when working in social care settings to the same level as NHS staff, social care settings often do not have the mechanisms for generating prescriptions, drawing down from health budgets, and clinical supervision. As such the use of NMP in social care is limited.

This World Cafe event aims to explore challenges and facilitators to NMP in social care nursing settings .
