Practical Mammography

Abstract

Positioning for a mammogram requires skill and expertise. This chapter considers the requirements of a practitioner to employ accurate and reproducible positioning techniques whilst applying appropriate and effective compression. This chapter also illustrates the basic positioning techniques required to produce high quality mammogram images whilst employing high levels of communication and care.

This chapter will use the term ‘service-user’ to represent patient and client within a mammography service. The term ‘practitioner’ to represent assistant and associate practitioners, mammographers, practitioners, advanced and consultant practitioners and others who specialise and undertake mammography images.
