Abstract

The climax and implications of Brexit are profiled in this chapter, taking account of the high stakes politics that held centre stage for so long. Uncertainty and risk are key themes in this national story of political psychology as Boris Johnson became Prime Minister and the UK subsequently voted for his Conservative Government in 2019. Amid the turmoil and fears of disruption, the implications for the workplace are summarised in light of the contributions to this book of business and economic specialists, as well as psychologists working in organisations and communities as consultants and researchers. A psychology of survival points to clear lessons learned by UK organisations and the need for these to be (re-)incorporated in ensuring its workplaces are not only fair, but fit for purpose – where the business case for well-being and compassion is clear, whatever the politics of the day.
