Abstract

Few events have divided and shocked the nation on the same level as ‘Brexit’. The European Union referendum saw Salford vote 56.8% to ‘leave’, far higher than the national average (51.9%). Many have grappled to understand the outcome: how it will impact on a city that has already experienced stigmatisation, and how we can collectively create positive community bonds moving forward. This session will begin by sharing our research findings on a project that examined the views and experiences of ‘leave’ voters in Salford. This will be followed by audience participation: first, facilitated debate and discussion; and second, workshop activity.
