Abstract
An examination of translation of poetic form across languages with a specific focus on Japanesr and English haiku and on the Old English Riddle. The article includes references to Bill Griffiths' modern alliterative English haiku, the Old English roots of Tolkien's riddles, contemporary British haiku, and haiku elements in an old Norwegian runic poem.
