Abstract
The arguments presented in this chapter are founded on a deeply held understanding that service design and delivery, and nursing and health-care practices, aimed at children, should be fully informed by children and young people. We begin by offering a critical insight into the historical reasons for non-inclusion of children in research and then consider the contemporary political and policy landscape. We then look at the ethical and legal challenges inherent in research work with children and offer an overview of the research methods that may be used to successfully engage and involve children and young people.
