Abstract

Introduction and aim: Total hip replacement (THR) aims to reduce pain and disability [1]. However in the long term, even in the absence of pain, there is reduced muscle strength, postural stability and flexibility [2]. Enhanced Recovery Programmes (ERP) [3] for THR patients are rehabilitation pathways designed to optimise recovery. The aim of this study was to understand the recovery patterns associated with the ERP and THR. As part of the outcomes of a longitudinal study, the results of the objective assessment of patient's physical activity immediately after THR surgery whilst still in hospital are reported.
