Abstract

The article draws on the rationale and concept
of the European Code of good Conduct for
Microcredit Providers which was intended to set out
good practice guidelines that will better enable the
sector to face the challenges of accessing longterm
finance, maintaining and raising the quality of
services and moving towards sustainability. The author
argues that there are a number of issues that should
be resolved before any work begins on the clauses.
Among those as described in the article is a process
to manage non-compliance, standards to drive up
performance, avoidance of working at the speed of
the poorest performer and the need of transparent
and standardized measures of performance
