Abstract
Construction industry has quite actively embraced the principles of knowledge management in the last two decades. With sustainability becoming critical for everything we do today, knowledge management has been gaining prominence as a vehicle to manage organisational knowledge and help the organisation achieve sustainability in its operations. Knowledge mapping is a technique used to show people in an organisation or within a network/supply chain where to go when they need expertise. This paper examines the knowledge mapping techniques prevalently used in the construction sector in the UK. The paper also presents results of interviews of 18 professionals from the construction sector, involved in the knowledge management and also presents results of their evaluation of these tools on the criterion of robustness, cost, user friendliness, dynamism, training, impact and adaptability. In the end this paper proposes a knowledge mapping model that can be used by organisations to map their knowledge.
