Abstract

Jill Randall, Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Visual Arts Course in the School of Arts & Media, has just returned from presenting a paper at “Paradox”- the Fine Art European Forum Conference, “The Inheritance: Contesting Legacies in Fine Art Practice, Research and Education”, in Granada, Spain, 12th-13th September 2013.

Jill Randall has a history of implementing her research practically within the University and re-introducing it into a teaching context. Her paper used two case studies at two different sites of student projects to investigate the use of the Live Brief within teaching, and how staff research projects can introduce new ways of delivering Fine Art education, with benefits for the student and the institution.

Jill Randall’s paper, titled “Context is Half the Work” -The Live Brief in Fine Art Education,
was selected for the conference strand “Challenging Fine Art Pedagogies”, and showcased the Live Briefs offered to Level 5 Visual Arts students as models of best practice within a prestigious European context.
Jill Randall also presented her recent research project at Tate Britain, studying the APG (Artist Placement Group) Archive during a 3-month Sabbatical from University of Salford.
