This paper focuses on the larger transformation of green space, in particular the use of artificial grass in Birmingham’s inner-city primary schools. The paper uses a combination of observation and informal interviews to explore the artificial grasses’ impact along with its novelty value in a school setting. The article draws on literature relating to novelty in order to investigate whether this product could potentially be used in other schools and thus have an impact on more environments. The paper concludes by looking at the future and what needs researching in relation to artificial grass use in a school environment.
