Assessing the impact of delivering family interventions training modules: Findings of a small-scale study
Murphy, N; Withnell, N
Abstract
This paper discusses the impact of delivering a family interventions module to qualified mental health practitioners, and in particular highlights whether participants are able to utilise the skills that they learn into practice. This small-scale study uses a mixed methods type approach to ascertain the views of the participants at three specific points; at the beginning of the module, at the end of the module, and at three months following the completion of the module. Questionnaires and interviews were undertaken with the participants, and the results were analysed by both authors to ensure individual bias was minimised. The results highlight that the family interventions module equipped the participants with the necessary skills to carry out family interventions, but that barriers existed in practice that potentially prevented this from becoming routine practice.
