Abstract
During the past eighteen months The Library at the University of Salford has been developing a number of Open Access digital collections, using our currently hosted EPrints repository as the infrastructure to enable access to them. We have concentrated our efforts on digitising images and documents from our Library and University owned archives collections, as well as working with the local community to make other collections available.
There are currently live collections relating to the Richard Badnall Papers and the University of Salford Photographic Collection (both owned by the University) and the Working Class Movement Library Collection. New collections are under development for the Worsley New Hall Collection and the Mike Craig Comedy Archive.
Many steps have been taken to develop the digital archive; and new collaborations and relationships have been formed in order to make these new collections happen. Metadata workflows were specifically developed to accommodate the differing collections, closely working with the curators of each collection, as well as EPrints, in order to make these appropriate to the content. The user-interface was created, making use of the Kultur plug-in and a zoom function was developed for closer inspection of the content.
The poster examines how a repository can be used to deliver non-traditional content, and how the repository has been opened up as a shared and collaborative service with neighbours in the local community.
