Abstract
This book seeks to explore the methodological and epistemological potentials of Pierre Bourdieu's sociology of cultural production for the study of translation. Based on a case study of the Arabic translations of Shakespeare's dramatic work in Egypt, this book will elaborate the gaps that Bourdieu's work can fill in our understanding of the socio-cultural dynamics of translation, providing a critique of the diverse readings of Bourdieu's work in the field of translation studies and its implications for a 'sociological' turn in the study of translation and intercultural communication.
