Abstract
(Based on a presentation at the 2010 Great Writing Conference)
Molecules of Hope:
Year 10 students from local comprehensive schools came together on the Aimhigher Programme at the Salford University. Students built a book in two days. They began to understand how a book goes from an idea to something which can be taken from a shelf and read or which can be viewed on a web site.
The Year 10 students discovered that they could make their words count and that they might be able to continue to do this in a few years time in Higher Education setting. A Creative Writing lecturer and two students were able to understand their own processes more exactly.
The "what ifs" poured out. The students wanted to write about hope for young cancer patients. A book was dreamed of and produced.
This article discusses a creative process in action.
