Abstract

This paper outlines the on-going collaborative work of a multinational group of social work educators, funded
by the Socrates Programme of the European Social Fund. To date the project has sustained an active
exchange of educators and students from the participating universities. The partnership has contributed to
a series of symposia, hosted by the University of Kuopio, on the role of social work in public health systems;
co-ordinated two international conferences held in June 2000 and November 2001; published texts targeted
at and written for students and educators who have a particular interest in the situation of social work in
Europe, especially for those who are planning a stay abroad in one of the participating countries as part of
the Erasmus student and staff mobility programme; and are developing A Masters Programme in European
Social Work, the aim of which is to provide, as from Autumn 2003, a unified programme operating across
European Higher Educational Institutions leading to a common Award. The partners intend to continue
exploring opportunities afforded by European funding and their existing co-operative network to develop
research activity, international seminars and dissemination.
