Abstract
This project will investigate the approaches followed and the role that work based learning (WBL) consultancies currently plays in student-centred learning at the University of Salford. This enquiry seeks to explore the nature of the vocational skills developed and the resultant employability and career potentials. The research will examine the use of WBL consultancy approaches across the University and the typical partnership relations between tutors and employers/clients. Employability and skills development outcomes are important to the current policies of the University. The investigation will explore the issues involved in their delivery through the WBL consultancy means of teaching and learning. The objective is to identify the nature of the common and diversified approaches used in the University. The intention is to draw upon the experience of learners and teachers using this approach and from the employers and clients involved. The research will contribute towards cross-disciplinary collaboration. It will develop knowledge and understanding of the role that WBL consultancies play in enhancing learning experiences, developing professional skills, and improving employability and knowledge transfers between HE learners and workplace environments. It will realise quality improvements in teaching approaches at the University of Salford and enhance teaching and learning within the establishment.
