Abstract
My reading of Capriolo’s second novel, Il doppio regno (1991), focuses on these three statements, which prompt the questions: what sort of library are we dealing with? What type of books does it contain? And what kind of reading takes place in it? Analysis of these statements in context, together with Capriolo’s obvious fascination with structure, patterns, and form, will lead on to a fuller examination of the motifs of reading, memory and assimilation.
