Abstract

Current research within housebuilding procurement is based on project management approaches and theories from the infrastructure construction sector. This research uses a systematic literature review to synthesise research focused on housebuilding procurement to identify specific activities, challenges and best practices and contribute to the field’s understanding of the specific characteristics of housebuilding procurement. The research finds that there is currently no unified approach or defined theory to housebuilding procurement. Most of the current research still identifies housebuilding as part of the construction sector and consequently still uses project management as the key basis for the design and management of its procurement activities.
