Abstract
Despite efforts to make Higher Education equitable to all those who can benefit from it student success rates are influenced by significant inequalities related to race, gender and social class. Both institutional and national policies within the United Kingdom (UK) have aimed to reduce these inequalities, yet data demonstrates that change can be slow (UUK/NUS 2018). The persistence of challenges therefore requires us to consider in what ways underlying institutional cultures and ecosystems might have an unintended effect on students’ learning experiences.
