In this study the authors have constructed a conceptual framework by examining the factors influencing AM implementation within the supply chain. Most studies address the potential disruptions of AM in logistics and distribution. Therefore, a study is required which will examine in depth the factors influencing AM implementation within the supply chain from the selection of raw material-equipment suppliers towards the customers. The most significant contribution of this research is the AM implementation framework from a supply chain perspective with emphasis on the healthcare sector and medical device manufacturers. At the time of writing this is the first study, which examines the AM implementation process within the supply chain of medical device manufacturers in the context of a conceptual framework.
