Self-care is a requirement for counsellors and psychotherapists in the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, yet no specific guidance is provided for how to do this. This article discusses both challenges to self-care and strategies for how to enhance self-care. The continuum from distress to stress to professional impairment is also examined.
