Abstract
This paper validates and calibrates the applied element method (AEM) by modelling experimental results from the literature that examine the behaviour of reinforced concrete sub-assemblages under column-removal scenarios. Additionally, the paper identifies and highlights critical parameters, such as material properties, boundary conditions, and the stiffness of axial restraints, that significantly impact the response of reinforced concrete sub-assemblages in these scenarios. This study demonstrates the accuracy, relevance, and advantages of AEM for progressive collapse analysis, confirming its effectiveness and highlighting its potential to enhance and accelerate future research in the field.
