Development of Immediate Feedback Software for Optimising Glide Performance and Time of Initiating Post-Glide Actions (P56) (2008)
Book Chapter
Naemi, R., Aritan, S., Goodwill, S., Haake, S., & Sanders, R. (2008). Development of Immediate Feedback Software for Optimising Glide Performance and Time of Initiating Post-Glide Actions (P56). In The Engineering of Sport 7. Springer. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-2-287-99054-0_35

Performance in starts and turns is a major contributor to success in swimming and is influenced greatly by the glide efficiency and the timing of commencing the post-glide action (including kick in all strokes and the underwater pull in breaststroke... Standards, challenges and solutions: Developing a rheumatology core teaching set for undergraduate health professionals (2008)
Journal Article

Background: Rheumatological conditions are common, thus health professionals require at least basic rheumatology knowledge upon qualifying. The aim of this study was to develop a core set of teaching topics and potential ways of delivering them.... Patient perceptions on energizers and drainers in RA fatigue: Implications for clincial practice (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

Background: Fatigue is a significant symptom of RA, yet patients have reported feeling unsupported by clinicians, and self-management has variable success. This study aimed to explore the patients’ perception of what contributes to, or resolves fatig... Knowing you have been formally assessed as competent: Rheumatology practitioners' views of an osce (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

Background: The objective structured clinical evaluation (OSCE) is increasingly being used to evaluate clinical skills and reasoning ability in under- and postgraduate programmes. Effectiveness of a Rheumatology OSCE has been evaluated in an MSc Rheu... Read More about Knowing you have been formally assessed as competent: Rheumatology practitioners' views of an osce.

Estimating individual cancer risks in the UK national breast screening programme: A feasibility study (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

Conventional risk models for the development of breast cancer use inputs such as age, weight, hormonal factors and family history to compute individual breast cancer risk. These are employed in the management of women at high risk. The addition of br... Metal coated subwavelength laser resonators with low threshold gain (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

We demonstrate that a low refractive index layer in metal coated laser resonators can significantly reduce the threshold gain. A subwavelength resonator with a sufficiently low threshold gain to lase at room temperature is presented.

Low threshold gain metal coated laser nanoresonators (2008)
Journal Article
Mizrahi, A., Lomakin, V., Slutsky, B., Nezhad, M., Feng, L., & Fainman, Y. (2008). Low threshold gain metal coated laser nanoresonators. Optics Letters, 33(11), 1261-1263. https://doi.org/10.1364/OL.33.001261

We introduce a low refractive index layer between the metal and the gain medium in metal-coated laser resonators and demonstrate that it can significantly reduce the dissipation losses. Analysis of a gain medium waveguide shows that for a given waveg... Read More about Low threshold gain metal coated laser nanoresonators.

Optimizing classification techniques using genetic programming approach (2008)
Presentation / Conference
Saraee, M., & Sadjady, R. (2008, December). Optimizing classification techniques using genetic programming approach. Presented at 12th IEEE International Multitopic Conference, Conquering the Horizons of Future Technology (IEEE INMIC 2008), Karachi, Pakistan

Genetic Programming (GP) is a branch of Genetic
Algorithms (GA) that searches for the best operation or
computer program in search space of operations. At the same
time classification is a data mining technique used to build model of data classes... Read More about Optimizing classification techniques using genetic programming approach.

Applying data mining in medical data with focus on mortality related to accident in children (2008)
Presentation / Conference
Saraee, M., Ehghaghi, Z., Meamarzadeh, H., & Zibanezhad, B. (2008, December). Applying data mining in medical data with focus on mortality related to accident in children. Presented at IEEE International Multitopic Conference, Karachi, Pakistan

Trauma is the main leading cause of death in children; we need a tool to prevent and predict the outcome in these patients. Data mining is the science of extracting the useful information from a large amount of data sets or databases that leads to st... Fuzzy block matching motion estimation for video compression (2008)
Presentation / Conference
Soroushmehr, S., Samavi, S., & Saraee, M. (2008, December). Fuzzy block matching motion estimation for video compression. Presented at 2008 IEEE 9th Malay International Conference on Communications, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,

Motion estimation demands intense computations. To overcome this obstacle, different techniques have been devised. In this paper an efficient spatio-temporal fuzzy search algorithm is proposed to shorten the search time without the loss of accuracy....
