Ms Lisa Cullen
Biography | Employed by the University of Salford since 1996. Lecturer in Dance and founder of Dance At Salford, a concept that formed a community made up of academics, students, alumni and associate artists, working in mutually beneficial partnerships to nurture and sustain a buoyant dance community in Greater Manchester. Area of teaching practice - Choreography Area of engagement - Artist development I locate myself as a dance creator and educator within a postmodern, hybrid, framework. Utilising somatic, performance art, and modern dance practices within collaborative processes. I engage the ensemble in led meditations/visualisations to allow individual experiences and responses to a common journey. These responses are the seeds to grow a vocabulary that is unique to each company member but shares a common structure via the suggestions given in the meditation. Writing, drawing, storytelling, anchoring (NLP) are all common devices used within the creative period as both beginnings and ends of explorations. I work formally then with modern dance principles to create a skeleton that supports set content and provides a constant in which layers of intention can be added. |
