Biography | I was Professor of Rheumatology Rehabilitation and from 1st November 2023 I am an Honorary Professor. This webpage will not be updated after that date. My latest publications can be found on my ResearchGate page: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Alison-Hammond-2. I focus on mixed methods research in rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders (RMD). My research involves working with clinical colleagues and people with RMDs to ensure relevance to clinical and patient needs, and to contribute to evidence-based practice. Research includes clinical trials; surveys; systematic reviews; outcome measurement development and testing; and qualitative research. I have published over 100 journal articles, 15 book chapters, contributed to self-help books and information booklets for people with arthritis, and to NICE and EULAR guidelines. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), a Fellow of the British Health Professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR)/ British Society of Rheumatology (BSR), a Droitwich Lecturer (BHPR/BSR) and Casson Memorial Lecturer (RCOT). I have held committee posts in RCOT, BHPR, BSR, EULAR. ARMA, NRAS, Versus Arthritis, as well as journal editorial and grant review committees. |
Research Interests | Interests include patient education and self-management, health behaviour change, hand therapy, and work rehabilitation. Current projects include: the WORKWELL trial, testing work rehabilitation for arthritis; and WORK-PROMS: a programme testing work patient reported outcome measures and investigating the impact of musculoskeletal conditions on work. I am a partner in the Versus Arthritis/MRC National Centre for Excellence in Musculoskeletal Health and Work. |
