Biography My professional background is in physiotherapy with a special interest in respiratory physiotherapy. I have been employed on a full-time basis at the University of Salford since February 2008. Before this I was employed by Salford Royal Foundation Trust as a physiotherapist.

I am involved in the teaching across the broad curriculum of the physiotherapy undergraduate degree, mainly in the topics of cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, research in physiotherapy, and the strategies used to assess and manage challenging situations. I have been a programme leader since September 2018, taking overall responsibility for management and quality assurance of the part-time route and apprenticeship programme.

Helen's research interests focus on the patient experiences and engagement with rehabilitation within Critical Care. She was involved in research projects concerning the use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) in the Critical Care setting to allow the voiceless patient to communicate and a meta-ethnography exploring the patient experience of mechanical ventilation.
