Internal Funding Award
2023 - 2024
Recognition Type | Internal funding award |

Description | The funding will be used to extend existing research with external partners for the further development and use of our new instruments (developed with Rod Dubrow-Marshall, Jill Aebi-Mytton, and colleagues) to measure coercive control and its psychological effects (trauma-coerced attachment). These instruments are being used in clinical assessments and will be important evidence in court cases. We are working with the UK Faith and Belief Team, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to develop an evidence base for coercive control in religions using these measures, with a range of local authority partners and solicitors who are keen to use them, with clinicians and with partners internationally (e.g. International Cultic Studies Association) and our research is having and will have national and international impact. Funding from the RIPE fund will be used to pay Pearson for a license to administer the Symptom Checklist Revised (SCL-90-R) which is established validated instrument (of anxiety and psychological distress) and this will allow for our developing instruments to be validated and refined for onward use with a range of external partners. |
