Description | Challenging the Narrative: Intimate Partner Violence and Upper Limb Loss in Uganda and Tanzania Intimate Partner Violence is normalised in Ugandan society with over 56% married women experiencing some form of IPV (Gubi et al, 2020). Amegbor et al ( 2021) suggest that rather than protecting women, higher employment status does not protect women from acts of violence; ‘violence becomes an easy and cheap way for men to retain their dominance in such relationships’. In the absence of prosthetic services upper limb loss has a catastrophic impact on women’s participation in paid work and economic independence. |
