Biography | Professor Peter Walker is an architect and is Professor of Construction Science & Management and Director of the Sustainable Built & Natural Environment Directorate. Prior to joining the university Peter was Professor of Architecture and Head of the Belfast School of Architecture at Ulster University; a director of a large health care practice – Devereux Architects (now Ryder Architects); and taught part time at Newcastle University. He is the author of a number of academic papers and books including Contexts: The Work of Hodder and Partners. He has been an external examiner at Queens University Belfast, the University of Newcastle, Huddersfield University, the University of Salford, the University of Bath, the University of Northumbria, and the University of Leeds. He has been a visiting Professor at two universities, most recently at Notre Dame University, Beirut, and is presently RIBA Part 3 Professional Examiner at Newcastle University and External Examiner for the innovative MEng in Architectural Engineering at the University of Leeds. Other significant activities and outputs include: • Joint authorship of the QAA Benchmark for Architecture, 2020 the primary guidance document for architectural education in the UK • Chair of the Business Ethics in Architecture Working Group developing a new PSRB Criteria in this area with colleagues from UWE, UEL, Greenwich, Bath, Cardiff, Westminster, and Coventry Universities • Former Head of a School of Architecture; Former Director of Architecture and Digital Design; Former Subject Head of Architecture • External Examiner at nine UK universities over 20 years and across three subject areas (Architecture, Building Management, Architectural Engineering) • Independent Advisor to the Architects Registration Board Education Committee • Member of SCHOSA Council since 1998 • Has written and taught on the subject of professional negligence as a risk factor in architecture, and has acted as an Expert Witness in over 40 cases of architectural professional negligence |
