Mr Gareth Whittleston
Biography | Gareth has worked both in the construction industry and research consultancy before becoming an Academic in 2011. He joined the University of Salford in 2016. Gareth is active within the relevant civil engineering professional Institutions, being an elected member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) branch committee and is on the national education committee of IStructE. |

Research Interests | Gareth's main research interests lie in structural/architectural glass design, new concrete technologies, including integrating graphene into concrete, and innovative uses for fibre-reinforced polymer composites in the field of civil engineering. He is also keen on developing and applying new technologies in the teaching of civil engineering. |
Teaching and Learning | Gareth has vast and varied experience in the delivery of higher education programmes related to civil engineering and the construction industry., both in the U.K. and internationally. He is currently civil engineering degree apprenticeship programme lead and in this role and others has been a key member of several professional body accreditation assessments of academic programmes (I.C.E. IStructE, C.I.H.T. I.H.E., P.W.I., C.I.A.T., C.I.O.B., C.A.B.E., R.I.C.S.) He has also won international awards for implementing innovative teaching and learning practices using augmented reality |
