Biography Maria is a Lecturer in Architecture, Program Director of BSc (Hons) Architectural Engineering, and FHEA, at the University of Salford. She is an RIBA Chartered Architect (UK), ARB Registered Architect (UK), and Registered Architect in Cyprus (ETEK), and has practical experience as an Architect and Conservation Architect in the UK and Cyprus.
In the UK, Maria worked as an Architect, Conservation Officer, and Conservation Architect (AABC Registered), before pursued an academic career. She worked on projects; conservation, restoration of Grade I, II*, II Listed Buildings, residential, ecclesiastical, Urban Regeneration projects, architectural competitions, etc.
Maria is a member of a number of professional and heritage organizations and an active member of IHBC (NW Branch) Events Committee (since 2010) and RIBA NW (Conservation, Heritage, Sustainability Group).
Maria has presented papers, chaired sessions, in National and International conferences, presented in invited lectures (Universities), workshops, published her work in articles and contributed in book chapters.
In 2021, she participated in a collaborative multidisciplinary research project on Intangible Cultural Heritage and Climate Change (University of Salford, University of Lancaster, CEDARE-Egypt).

Maria's research interests include: Architecture and Heritage (tangible and intangible), Vernacular and Earthen Architecture. Abandoned historic-heritage buildings and settlements, heritage in conflict, recreation-regeneration-reuse of built heritage, Sustainability-Conservation-Built Heritage, High Tech Heritage, AI and Built Heritage, Biophilic Design, Byzantine-Medieval-Neoclassical Architecture, etc.
Research Interests Historic Building Conservation, Tangible and Intangible Heritage, Adaptive Reuse-Conservation-Heritage-Sustainability, Earthen Architecture, Endangered Heritage, Heritage in conflict, Vernacular Architecture, Abandoned Vernacular Villages, AI and Heritage, High-Tech Heritage.
Teaching and Learning Maria has been teaching (since 2021) as the module leader in 4 programs of Architecture and Design (BSc Architecture, BSc Architectural Engineering, BSc Interior Architecture, BSc Architectural Design Technology) in Trimesters 1 to 3.:

Maria is interested in working with the university's industrial partners and colleagues, in enhancing students' learning by connecting their assessment tasks to live projects (conservation and restoration of historic buildings, adaptive reuse-retrofit projects, newly built structures and buildings that focus on sustainable design).

Maria was awarded the Fellowship in Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2023.
