Paul is a research practitioner who has been actively involved in the field of urban regeneration since 2001. In practice, Paul was highly experienced in the field of urban heritage regeneration acting as client representative on a large number of complex urban regeneration projects from inception to post occupancy completion.
A particular area of interest is urban heritage regeneration, where Paul has previously acted as the senior development manager responsible for the successful delivery of RIBA award-winning Stubbs Mill, Manchester, Grade II* Beehive Mill, Manchester and Grade II* listed Midland Hotel, Morecambe projects, from project inception to post occupancy completion. In addition to receiving both Stubbs Mill and the Midland Hotel receiving RIBA and Civic Trust awards, the Midland Hotel regeneration project was also awarded the RIBA Special Crown Estate Conservation Award for excellence in 2008.
Following a rewarding period, between 2001 and 2020, working for two notable urban regeneration companies based in the North-West of England, in 2020 Paul founded, and continues to operate, on a part time basis, Jones URC, an urban regeneration consultancy. Jones URC is currently acting as a strategic client advisor to not for profit organisations looking to, or delivering urban regeneration and conservation projects in the North- West of England.
In relation to research activity, Paul self-funding a Professional Doctorate in the Built Environment that was awarded by the University of Salford in 2017. Paul now lectures, on a mostly full time basis, at the University of Salford in the subjects of urban regeneration, environmental impact, viability, planning, conservation and urban regeneration at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Paul's current research focus is participating as an active member of the real estate research and consultancy cluster in the School of Science, Engineering and the Environment and is actively progressing using his strong industry contacts, a collaborative research project relating to development of an online strategic decision-making support tool to aid public sector organisations in the direct delivery of successful urban heritage regeneration projects. Additionally Paul is actively progressing grant applications, journal articles and conference papers whilst also acting as a reviewer for both the Journal of Real Literature and International Journal of Heritage Studies.
