Mr Gary Prendergast
Biography | Teaching Art and Design for the past 20 years has enabled me to collaborate with colleagues from a broad range of creative disciplines including Fine Art, Textiles, 3D and Photography, providing me with a holistic approach to creative problem solving. As designers and artists, we are constantly learning and every brief we tackle gives us an opportunity to further develop our practice. Working on freelance projects in the music, publishing and cultural sectors of graphic design and self-initiated projects under the name ‘cut shape make’ has fuelled my own development as a designer, however most importantly working with students in an experimental manner has developed a ‘studio to studio’ approach which has enriched my teaching and my output. I am inspired by the process of creating work, the construction of type and image and the journey of discovery. I like The Bicycle Thieves, Antoni Tapies, New Order, 8vo, scissors and glue, Wim Crouwel, the smell of new print, Sister Corita Kent, typography, v23, photocopiers, Serpico, books, 7” record sleeves, Experimental Jetset, packaging, Sicily, magic tape, The Pixies, Piet Zwart, found objects, Herbert Bayer and much more.
