Biography Michelle is Professor of Health and Social Policy Inequalities at the University of Salford and Visiting Professorial Fellow in the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce (HSCWRU) at King’s College London. She leads on homelessness and inclusion health research in the Centre for Applied Health Research (CAHR) at Salford University and co-leads the Homelessness Research Programme at King’s College London. Current NIHR funded research projects include a study of the public health impacts of housing-led interventions (Chief Investigator 2023-26); a study of mental capacity and homelessness (Chief Investigator 2024-26) and a study of adult social care in rural and coastal areas (Co-Applicant 2025-2027). She has led evaluations for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on hospital discharge and has contributed to government policy guidance on ending discharge to the street. Michelle’s methodological expertise is in realist evaluation and mixed methods research. She is Chair of two Study Steering Committees (SSCs) for NIHR and sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Integrated Care. She helps run the Community Forum at Salford Loaves and Fishes and is a Trustee of homeless charity St Martin’s-in-the Field (BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal). Michelle has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester.
