Post Nominals RN Child, SCPHN SN, MSc Health Care Education, Senior Fellow of the HEA
Biography Trudy joined Salford University in January 2023.

She is by her own admission a proud and strong advocate for Children Young People and their families, and for the nurses who care for them.

She qualified as a children's nurse in 1997 from Sheffield University, and worked in acute settings across Sheffield, Doncaster, and Chesterfield. Her passion ranged from neonates, to adolescents, those with a learning disability and those experiencing poor mental health.

Increasing observance of poor health outcomes and inequalities in health led Trudy to pursue a preventative strand as she undertook the
SCPHN SN qualification in 2005. Working in areas of deprivation she championed work with parents with a learning disability in support of their children. Bespoke training for Derbyshire Safeguarding Board was completed, which then led to a Named Nurse post being taken at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2011. Conference delivery of this work was undertaken at UKSC in 2015.

The educational aspects to each of the roles she had, led to her pursuing a practice teacher qualification, which was completed in support of future SCPHN SN in 2008. She completed her MSc in Health Care Education in 2012, and achieved Senior Fellow status of Advanced HE in 2023.

Prior to joining the team at Salford University, she worked at Derby University, supporting and leading pre and post registration nursing for 14 years. She has therefore built up a wealth of experience in ensuring the education provided to students is supportive of improving outcomes for children and young people and their families.

Since joining Salford, she has been instrumental in the inclusion of the CYP voice in all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment. Collaboration with Salford Youth Council members continues to enhance the student experience.
