Spinning and Losing: A Qualitative Investigation of Problem Gambling and Trauma in the North East of England.
2025 - 2025

Recognition Type Internal funding award
Description Globally, a wealth of statistical data evidences a significant relationship between experiences of trauma and problematic gambling. However, questions such as how and why trauma and problem gambling are related remain poorly understood. Through interviews and focus groups with problem gamblers and public health professionals in the North East of England, this study aims to develop a better understanding of the role that traumas suffered throughout the life course play in the development of problematic gambling behaviours, with a view to informing the development of effective public health-related policy and practice that address the underlying causes of problem gambling.
