Carol Remfrey foote
Biography | I trained as a registered nurse in acute care gaining experience in medical, coronary care and surgery. I then had a 3 year break to have my children before returning to nursing in A&E as a staff nurse. In 1986 I became a nursing sister in renal medicine and in 1989 added haematology as another speciality. I left hospital nursing after being sponsored to train as a health visitor and worked in the community until 2000. After 30 years in a senior professional nurse management position I retired. During my NHS career I was sponsored to complete an undergrad degree in Advanced Nursing Practice which gave me the qualification as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the first cohort to be trained in Scotland. I then completed an MPhil in Health and Social Sciences research looking at 8 and 9 year old children's attitudes to tobacco use. My intention had been to do a PhD but due to the responsibilities of the NHS promoted post and 24 hour responsibility for 280 nurses I had to make the difficult decision to complete at MPhil. I retrained as a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist from 2008-2012 and set up in private practice. I was awarded a UKATA medal for my work with vulnerable people. My clinical placement was at Rape Crisis in Dundee and in a local mental health hospital in Fife. In 2020 I decided this was the time to complete my ambition to do a PhD and was supported by my family and Dr Mark Widdowson who believed in me. |
