The Leverhulme Trust Aural Diversity Doctoral Research Hub (LAURA)

People Involved

Project Description

The Centre will be unique: the first doctoral programme in aural diversity in the world. Existing DTCs are quite far removed from this proposal thematically. There are EU doctoral networks focussed on hearing aid development (ICANHEAR), the effects of music on sleep (Lullabyte) network audio processing (SOUNDS) and aircraft cabin acoustics (NO2NOISE). There are no current UKRI DTCs focussing on sound, music, hearing or acoustics. There is a current bid to UKRI for a consortium DTC in acoustics (PI Trevor Cox). This focuses on noise as an engineering problem. While some of the same Salford supervisors are involved, the aims and PhD topics are very different. Leverhulme would be unlikely to fund the UKRI bid, and UKRI would be unlikely to fund this bid.
