Integrating additional risk factor screening and personalised preventative lifestyle support into routine abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound scans for over 65 men living in Greater Manchester using co-design: AAA plus (NURD5301)

People Involved

Project Description

The aim of this study is to co-design an implementation plan for an innovative "AAA plus screening" initiative targeting men over 65 in Greater Manchester The objectives are: Barriers and Facilitators Assessment: Explore and understand the determinants influencing the non-engagement of men over 65 in Greater Manchester with routine AAA screening, using semi-structured interviews. Apply the Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation model of Behaviour (COM-B) to systematically analyse the barriers and facilitators to AAA health screening uptake among non-users. Co-Design and Implementation Planning: Facilitate a focus group involving both non-service user participants and service providers. Develop a stakeholder-identified shortlist of implementation solutions to overcome barriers and enhance facilitators for AAA Plus screening. Collaboratively design a Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) checklist, specifying details of AAA Plus screening and an implementation plan. Utilize a consensus-based Nominal Group Technique to prioritise shortlisted implementation solutions. Draw on the Consolidated Framework for Intervention Research (CFIR) and the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) models to inform the co-design process. Materials Creation: Develop AAA Plus service user and provider materials to support the implementation of the TIDieR checklist. Create a menu of implementation solutions and associated resources, allowing customisation of AAA Plus screening for both users and providers.
