CoRIPS: Diagnostic radiographers’ experiences & understandings of informed consent during medical imaging examinations of dementia patients

People Involved

Project Description

Existing research suggests that radiographers are adopting inconsistent practices and have poor understandings when it comes to obtaining informed consent for patients living with dementia before medical imaging examinations. However, previous research has not provided enough insight into this area to properly inform practice or policy. The most recent iteration of the Society and College of Radiographer’s (SCoR) dementia guidelines therefore calls for further research to grasp a better understanding of how radiographers are assessing and obtaining informed consent from patients living with dementia. This qualitative study will use semi-structured interviews using open ended questions to explore diagnostic radiographers’ experiences and understandings of informed consent and capacity assessment during medical imaging examinations for patients living with dementia.
