Project Description

Wildlife is one of the main sources of emerging infectious diseases, but their pathogen surveillance is challenging. We propose to analyze samples from roadkill across 371 localities from 14 states of Brazil using novel genomic techniques to assess the pathobiome of free-range wildlife. Data will be used to model pathogen prevalence, distribution, and transmission dynamics in wildlife to identify factors associated with disease emergence and spread.
