Abstract

Greif and loss involve change which often involves struggling with how to make sense of, and live with, grief. Grief and loss are important and complex areas of social work practice. Although traditional theories remain influential, more contemporary theories encourage us to consider individual and family responses within their social and cultural context. Social workers are expected to acknowledge grief and loss in their own lives, in order to relate and support individuals and their unique circumstances.
