Cover endorsement:
“All journeys”, said Martin Buber “have secret destinations of which the traveller is unaware”. Scott Thurston’s Draft Vicinity is just such a journey. These pieces have the elusive luminosity of Zen koans. They do not offer solutions, nor even ask questions, but create space. This is Thurston’s territory and he navigates it with the poise of a dancer, mediating and meditating through movement, breath and thought. Here, the destination is not so much secret as secondary, with the journey itself being of essence, the mind and body in motion, seeking the centre, settling back to stillness. Formally elegant yet open and alive, conceptual yet concrete, these are both poems and philosophical investigations into what the world is and what it is to be in it. —Tom Jenks
